This is sort of advertise-y, but I love sending cards with my kids’ pictures on them. I’ve used Treat.com to send sympathy cards, birthday cards, and thank you cards throughout the year. I’m simply a huge procrastinator when it comes to getting something in the mail, but somehow ordering online helps me get it done. True, my signature is not on there in ink, but the card gets sent, and that’s a win.

For Mother's day last year the BM was leaving town for 3 weeks the day before. SO I took all the pics of the kids (without adults) that we had and had them copied. I then made a kazillion phone calls, I called BM's siblings, mother, aunts, grandma looking for a picture of her with the kids either both or individually, no one had one! SO I went ahead and had the kids make a pop up card collage with all their pictures for mom for mothers day, one card each. I thought this would be a great gift to be able to pack and take on a holiday to meet her bf's family. She would then have pictures of her kids to show everyone....
BOY WAS I WRONG! She ripped them up and threw them out because all the pics were of the kids doing things with us! (Even though we weren't in ANY picture). The kids were heartbroken as they were SO proud of these cards!
SO What if anything do I do for Mom for Mother's day? (she does NOTHING for Father's day because apparently that is now my duty). I don't want to spend a lot of money, but it seems that is all she is interested in, "how much" did the gift cost? I don't want the kids heartbroken again this year...and then I wonder, isn't it now "boyfriends duty"?
I had many years, when my step-kids were younger, that we would go to great effort to make special, thoughtful gifts for their mom for Mother's Day. BM was never grateful, has never been nice, etc., etc.. My step-kids are 19 and 17 - funny thing, they are both thoughtful about gifts and cards. I have decided that my job was to teach them to really think about the individual and the gifts. Keep doing what you are doing!
